The Asian Pacific region is subject to rapid changes and economic growth. One of the consequences is rapid industrialisation and urbanisation of the population. This puts high pressure on waters by increasing use and pollution. The motto of this conference is: "Sustainable Water Environment and Water Use" and reflects the dramatic consequences. The most limiting factor for solving the increasing water problems in many regions of the world is the lack of human capacity. Sustainable water management is a complex and interdisciplinary topic and needs co-operation and teamwork of experts and has to include all stakeholders involved. Scientific and technological development plays an important role butis not sufficient to achieve the urgent need to develop and implement sustainable solutions not only in water supply, sanitation and water protection but also in regard to the close nexus between water, food production and energy. Also land management and city planning interact with water in many respects. IWA represents the leading global platform for the development of sustainable water solutions. ASPIRE provides the opportunity to meet with the best experts on research and practice from the region as well as globally, you can exchange ideas and solutions and explore new technology at the exhibition. ASPIRE will integrate you into a rewarding network of experts but also of friends and colleagues. You should be there if you want to contribute to solve water problems and you will not regret the time you spent there.
Since the establishment of the IWA Asia Pacific Regional Grouping (IWA-ASPIRE) in 2004, it has played an important role in promoting communications and collaborations within the Asia-Pacific region. The series of IWA-ASPIRE Conferences were initialed in 2005, which have provided a platform for water environment professionals to share knowledge and experience.
China has gained a rapid economic growth over the past few decades as fuelled by its expanding commercial and industrial sectors. However, the economic success has induced a great pressure on the sustainability of China's water sector. It has also posed new serious challenges for water practitioners and policy makers. In order to confront the challenges, China has taken strong actions to enhance research and development of water resources protection and sustainable use.
The 6th IWA-ASPIRE Conference & Exhibition will be hosted in Beijing, the capital of China, on September 20 - 24, 2015.With the main theme of "Sustainable Water Environment and Water Use", this conference will provide a great stage to discuss the complex and diversified situation of water and environment in China, and in the Asia Pacific Region as well.
On behalf of the organizing committee, I would like to invite water professionals from academia, public service, water industry and utilities to join the conference.
I look forward to seeing you in Beijing.
